Sport a Scarf and go Chic

February 27, 2008

Who can forget the famous Marylyn Monroe picture, with her in the nude draped in just some sheer scarves that was on Playboy oh so long ago? You can’t forget it perhaps because it has been a favorite pin-up of all time selling even today. Scarves and women go a long way; especially a woman in a convertible like Monroe did in many of her movies. Celebrities love scarves, sometimes the reason being the paparazzi – most of them wield a scarf to hide their faces from them. See a shutterbug and out comes the scarf over the head. Scarves are functional, sexy, and fun, when it comes to women. Sheer scarves can look great when knotted around the neck like a choker with a bow on the side.

Tip of the day: Get yourself a couple of super silk scarves that go well with most of the outfits and they can make the difference in your attire from okay to chic in no time. Try out some of these long scarves from Belisi Fashions that can be used as stoles or even hip scarves.

Little Black Dress – A Must-Have Always

February 26, 2008

Grooming comes naturally to most women – however we all know or have known a few style-challenged individuals who are clueless throughout their teens and later even during their working tenures. Like in the movie, Clueless, I have very often wanted to give makeovers to quite a few of my gal pals. That desire has now developed into this blog of mine where I try and pass on tips to help all my readers. This time I will talk about one of the basic must-haves in every wardrobe – the little black dress!

The importance of the ‘little black dress’, often seen emphasized in all style magazines, really makes perfect sense. It is the one thing that never goes out of style. You can never go wrong with it. Team it up with the right clothing add-ons or accessories and you can have a whole wardrobe of outfits for all kinds of events. A zebra-print handbag, classy black pumps with a little white here or there, a white scarf with some lovely black print from Belisi Fashions or even a splash of red – the list is endless!

Tip of the day: Get yourself a lovely little black cocktail dress and rest assured it will be a life saver to you many times over. While you pamper yourself, don’t let the man in your life feel left out. Pick a gift for him from a wide range of ties and pocket squares at the Belisi Fashions ties page.

An accessory – ‘socks’

February 1, 2008

I appreciate Terence’s comments. Yes, men’s scarves are immensely popular, because they are so visible. Let’s talk about an accessory that is not very visible and yet very important…socks.By and large socks were available in black, brown, gray and tan, the basic footwear colors. But now you see a riot of colors, red being one of the most popular! Socks are here to be seen and noticed! I have a colleague, an art director and his apparel usually goes like this; coordinated shirt and trousers, belt and socks in a contrasting color and a scarf either in the color of the shirt or matching the belt! He often wears a tan shirt and trousers with a red belt and socks with tan or brown foot wear. Sometimes, only sometimes the scarf is replaced by a t-shirt in a contrasting color worn under the shirt….that looks appealing too…check it out!

Men’s dressing continued

December 17, 2007

I am back with dressing tips for men. Some tips on scarves for you.

First, what is the difference between men’s scarves and women’s scarves? Men’s scarves are generally made of a thicker material than the conventional women’s scarves. Vintage, knitted, hand-woven, hand-painted, handmade, machine printed, and embroidered, many to choose from. How should one select a man’s scarf? There are loads of factors that contribute to the selection of men’s scarves. Factors like taste, personality, the material you are comfortable in, the occasion, and the purpose that it is to serve. You may also approach a manufacturer who would customize the scarf as per your choice and priority. For now I think this is sufficient… in my next blog I would cover more topics on men’s scarves; so keeping checking my blog you may come across some important tips and tricks.

Women’s dressing

December 12, 2007

While men are only required to look stylish, women are supposed to look both stylish and sensual. Therefore, grooming yourself could on some days, actually be the most important task. But women, be rest assured that as my blog says ‘personal grooming’ is simple. The bottom line to looking good is to accentuate your appearance by highlighting your plus points and hiding your flaws. As far as the face is concerned, makeup can work wonders. I have seen the plainest women  transforming into ravishing beauties through proper application of makeup. But more on makeup later. In this post, I want to talk about women’s DRESSING. Actually, there is so much to say, guess we will be talking more about this topic in later posts. So, ladies, to start with, for a day at the office, you would do well wearing a smart suit or a straight skirt and blouse. The colors should be sober, and at the same time, striking. Beige, grey, blue, brown, and black are ideal colors for a suit. When I say suit, I mean a blouse that is preferably white covered with a coat, and having either a pair of trousers or a skirt as the bottom.

Tip of the day: Women, whatever is your outfit, a scarf around the neck would truly make you look ravishing. Belisi Fashions has an exclusive site for its scarf range. Here is the link – http://www.belisisilkscarves.com/

Men’s Dressing

November 29, 2007

Loads of people ask me – what about men’s grooming? Do they not need it the most? Shouldn’t they look sophisticated? Of course, they need to look their best. Neatly shaved (even if you wish to have rugged look for certain occasions make sure your stubbles are perfectly chopped and looks neat), clean skin, good attire, and shoes will turn on girls immediately. Assume, you are invited for an event, which specifies it is a black and white ball, what would you wear – formals or semi-formals? Well, for a ball one generally expects you to wear formals, unless specified. So when you talk about a black and white ball, you are referring to a type of ball – hence, formal. A man in this case could wear a black tie.

Another invitation, where your host has only mentioned “Black Tie” as dress code, then probably you should wear a tuxedo as well. Again it depends on the specification that the invitation states. Say for example, some of the invitations may say “Black Tie Optional”, “Black Tie Preferred”, or “Black Tie Invited”.

What if you do not have a tuxedo? It is preferable to buy one or rent one. If you do not have a tie you may visit online stores that sell wide range of clothing accessories such as ties, scarves, pocket squares, etc. One such site that I came across was www.belisi.com.

Tip of the day: If you are not sure about the dressing, it is always sensible to ask your host. If you cannot ask him directly, then you could ask someone, who has been to such parties before.

Dressing-up well

November 28, 2007

Now that you have a healthy clear face, what should be the next on our agenda? May be on how to dress well… Dressing indeed reflects your personality. If you do not dress up as per the occasion, you may not enjoy the occasion well. People may notice you, but may be in a negative way. If you do not iron your dress (some dresses need not be ironed and some need to be ironed by laundry-man) it will leave a lethargic impression about you. It is important to dress as per the occasion or you may simply feel out of place. This will not only make you feel awkward but also deplete your self-confidence. When you step out of the door remember you are being watched all the time. Perfect dressing will only add to your personality.

Now read the invite carefully. Is it to a party, wedding, or  formal meeting? Is there a dress code? If the invite mentions “black tie”, then it is a clear indication for all men out there. Sometimes the invite would hint at “cocktails”, or “balls”. In this situation you have to wear the dress to suit the event. You could do some reading on the net…for additional tips.

You could look for appropriate dresses for your party or wedding online, you may visit online shopping sites. You may not like to purchase your dresses online; however, these sites will give you sufficient information about various designers, garment manufacturers, and retailers. Then you could visit the appropriate place in your city to purchase that outfit.

Tip of the day: You may not choose shoes that have the exact color as your outfit, unless it is black. It is advisable not to wear the same colored shoes as your bottom.

Skin Care…

November 27, 2007

Skin covers most of our body, with the face being the most visible part. A blushing skin is absolutely necessary if you want to look beautiful. When your face can be as beautiful as the moon why compromise? Acnes and pores are the most common problems, especially for all you teens.

Beauty experts often advice us to wash the face with cold water more than twice a day. However, do not over do it as this may lead to dry and rough skin. You should wash your face only twice – morning and night. Of course, it is alright to wash your face after you have perspired a lot as perspiration can aggravate acnes further. Rule of thumb is to keep your face clean. Use a mild face wash that suits your face well and has less or no abrasives. See to it that your face wash does not contain alcohol. While washing your face, use the face wash gently on acne prone areas. The way you apply your face wash also makes a difference. Apply your face wash gently with your fingertips. Do not scrub your skin. While you rinse your face, use lukewarm water – not too hot, nor too cold. Acnes also spread if you have oily hair. So if you have them wash them daily with good shampoo and conditioner.

Tip of the day: Drinking water in sufficient quantity only improves your metabolism, which clearly reflects on your skin.
